Trip to the Lakes District and Cambridge

Over Columbus Day weekend, me and two ladies from the office went to the Lakes District, or more specifically Newbiggun on Lune. I know some of you did not believe me when I told you the name of the town, so I have included a picture of the sign. (I know it is small, but if you click on it and enlarge it, you will be able to read it.) We stayed in Tranna Hill B&B (my first time to stay in a bed and breakfast), and it is in the next picture. It was just somebody's house with 3 bedrooms that they "rented" out for the nights. We then had a HUGE home cooked breakfast the next morning. The next picture is The Black Swan, one of only two restaurants in the area, where we had dinner. The next couple of pictures are just pictures from the boat ride we took on Lake Windermere.


On our way home from Newbiggun on Lune, we drove through the Yorkshire Dales, which is national park land. Here are some photos from our drive.


We also passed through Ripon on the way home and stopped and visited Ripon Cathedral. The first church built on the site of the Ripon Cathedral was built in the 7th century by St Wilfrid. Most of what stands there today is from the 12th century.

On Monday the holiday, we went to Cambridge. When in Cambridge, you have to go punting....where the "driver" of the boat stands at the back and puts a big stick down into the water and pushes off the bottom of the river to move the boat along. So we went punting down the Cam River. Below are some photos of some of the school buildings and some really neat bridges over the Cam River.
